College seniors looking for their next big academic step will visit CU-Boulder later this month for a weekend of tours and workshops designed to showcase the best that the campus has to offer them. The goal is to attract a more diverse student community to CU at the graduate level in science, technology, engineering and math.

From October 13 through October 15, students from groups considered by the National Science Foundation to be underrepresented in STEM graduate education will learn how to prepare successful graduate school applications, meet with faculty and network with current graduate students.

The Biofrontier’s Institute’s IQ Biology graduate program is one of five interdisciplinary certificate programs participating in the program. There are also 19 departments involved with the effort. Biofrontiers helped to fund the program and faculty members will support the weekend’s activities.

“Scientific collaboration between people from diverse perspectives can lead to transformative research,” says Jana Watson-Capps, Assistant Director for Interdisciplinary Education for Biofrontiers. “We appreciate that this diversity may come from a combination of different disciplinary and cultural backgrounds.”
